I wrote poem below while delirious from fever, inspired by William Ernest Henley’s Invictus, which is also the namesake of my profile. (Definitely took more than 60 seconds) 😬. Enjoy!
Covered by the wretched wings of despair
I knew not of the sun
Darkness by night, and darkness by day
A blistering mind, and a heart frigid, and numb
A glance in a moment
Perhaps just a thought
Of a bright shining light
That glistened the rot
I pushed through the claws, of hollow and pain
I knew not what to search for
Nor what prize I would gain
The harder I strode
The more darkness grew bold
Until one splintered moment
A whip, shot out through bone
I had broken the wings
But no beast stood awaiting
Alas a burn in my back
And I saw, the now withered wings
On the ground, wasting
